Mark your calendars – Time Warner Cable’s CFO John Martin will present at Bear Stearn’s Media Conference tomorrow around 10:20 am ET. Yes, financial presentations can be hideously boring, but they can also contain extremely interesting nuggets of information. Now is a good time to be paying attention to Time Warner because the cable company went public just last week. Unfortunately for TWC, the debut happened to correspond with the worst NYSE slump in four years.
Time Warner is getting mixed financial reviews, in part because of the work the company has to do to upgrade some of the Adelphia assets it acquired. However, the company does have some successes to boast, including the fact that the popular Start Over application (the ability to rewind to the beginning of a broadcast program) is set to be available in most markets by the end of 2007. Start Over (or Program Restart as Motorola calls the technology) employs advanced bandwidth management strategies to enable thousands upon thousands of concurrent video streams. Need an example? Think lots and lots of people rewinding the same Super Bowl touchdown play at the same time.
