Ouch

If you haven’t heard, Motorola revised its earning expectations based on the performance of its Mobile Devices business and is saying goodbye to its CFO. The COO, Thomas Meredith, will take over as acting CFO and Greg Brown will take charge as Motorola’s president and COO. Mr. Brown until now has headed up Motorola’s Networks and Enterprise business.

I don’t have much to say on this news because I was not part of any of the discussions leading up to it, and I certainly am not qualified to do any financial analysis.

However, I do think it’s interesting that someone outside of the Mobile Devices business is now president of the company. What I know about Mr. Brown is that he oversaw the merger of Motorola’s Networks and Government businesses when they became Networks and Enterprise. And he oversaw the acquisition of Symbol Technologies. Not a bad year’s work. He is apparently a highly qualified operations guy.

Stay tuned for more. I’m sure there will be.
