Busy busy weekend. Motorola announced its intention this morning to acquire Terayon Communications Systems. From the press release:
“Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Terayon Communication Systems, Inc. (Pink Sheets: TERN.PK) today announced that the two companies have signed a definitive merger agreement, under which Motorola will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Terayon’s common stock for $1.80 per share in cash.”
Since I don’t want to stick my foot in my mouth by commenting on a proposed acquisition, I’ll just mention that it’s worth taking a look at Terayon’s CherryPicker product line. It won a 2007 technical Emmy.
Meanwhile, Om Malik speculated on this transaction over the weekend. His post ended with a rather scary admonition to start-up companies everywhere. I think the warning is probably unnecessary. Start-up companies know all about the challenges of making a company successful. On the other hand, Terayon shows that start-up companies can continue to be innovative even after more than a decade in the spotlight.
