Spectrum Management

rf-sentry.jpg

I wasn’t going to write about Motorola’s new spectrum management software, but then someone sent me this photo from The Cable Show and I figured it was a sign. In short, the new software, called RF Sentry, makes it possible for operators to monitor cable networks at the modem level and optimize bandwidth. That’s a Cable Modem Termination System you see on the left (the BSR 64000) and the on-screen readout from RF Sentry on the right. Yes, operators should continue to find ways to increase bandwidth capacity, but there are also ways to make the most of the bandwidth they already have.
