Apparently Comcast has been providing VOD stats in a few of its markets for a while now, including top movies, free programs and premium programs viewed on demand. Today Multichannel News reports that Comcast is expanding the practice to include new markets. Comcast in Oregon even plans to release stats weekly to local media.
This is a brilliant move on Comcast’s part. Just like Google, Comcast gets to be an authority on what people are interested in and gets a little free brand exposure in the process.
What’s next? Releasing switched digital video stats? An interesting new way to track the long tail.
