Motorola Ships Two Million IPTV Set-Tops

Wondering how fast IPTV is growing? According Rethink Research Associates, the number of IPTV homes will rise from roughly three million now to more than 50 million in the next five years. Now compare that statistic against the fact that Motorola has just shipped its two millionth IPTV set-top. (For more reference, Motorola announced one million IPTV set-tops shipped just five months ago.)

A large number of these IPTV set-tops are obviously not in the US, and in fact official word is that Sweden’s TeliaSonera received number two million. Some of these set-tops use Microsoft software (as in the AT&T deployment) and some use Motorola’s KreaTV software.

The IPTV announcement was posted from today’s IBC 2007 event (somewhat overshadowed by other happenings in the US). More info on Motorola IBC news here.
