Since I’m on the topic of VOD, I learned an interesting factoid yesterday. Saturday mornings are peak VOD viewing times. Sounds strange, but the reasons make sense:
- Kids are watching on-demand shows on Saturday mornings while parents sleep in.
- Adults are finishing up 24-hour movie rentals that they optimistically started at 9:00 or 10:00 on Friday night… before falling asleep on the couch.
UPDATE: As the comment below points out, weekends evenings are still the prime time for watching on-demand video. I meant to suggest that Saturday mornings are also popular, but I didn’t include the underlying information that Friday and Saturday nights are still the most popular VOD times. Sorry for the confusion.

At least in cable, VOD peak times are not Saturday morning. Not by a long short. Peak times are between 10 PM to Midnight on Saturday. This is from data from all the major operators in the US.
Saturday morning viewship is higher than most times Mon to Tues. However, peak periods on Fri, Sat, and Sun in the evening all eclipse Saturday morning by far.
