A Note About On-Site Blogging at CES

on-site-ces.jpg

I’ve touched down in Vegas and everything has gone smoothly so far… except I forgot my badge at home. So while waiting in line to get replacement credentials, I thought I’d post a few notes regarding my planned blogging coverage.

First, I will spend a good portion of my time in the Motorola booth, but I do also plan to walk the show floor when possible , attend a few panel sessions and the Comcast Brian Roberts keynote, and hit up ShowStoppers tomorrow night.

Second, my plan is to debut some video from CES on this site with the help of my new Flip Ultra video camera. The quality of the video from this device is surprisingly good. Unfortunately, uploading it to YouTube for embedding video captures in a WordPress blog downgrades that quality significantly. If you’re looking for professionally produced video, Motorola has hired a videographer and will make content available on the main Motorola site. My goal is to provide the man-on-the-street view with quick turn-around to the Web.

Third, I have lots of posting planned, but timing for getting posts up will depend on how good my Internet access is. You’d think at a place like the Consumer Electronics Show free Wi-Fi would be plentiful. It isn’t. Last year I got wired access in the Motorola booth and leeched off the wireless connection just outside the press room. I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve this year, but you know what they say about even the best-laid plans…

Stay tuned. More to come from CES 2008.
