I’m afraid I can’t add anything to the public discussion about what happens next with Motorola’s mobile devices business. Even if I knew anything I wouldn’t be able to comment, but in this case my knowledge is non-existent anyway.
On the other hand, I can give an update on the Motorola Home and Networks Mobility business. Sales for 2007 were $10 billion, up nine percent from 2006. Among the highlights, Motorola:
- Shipped a record number of IP set-tops for the quarter
- Introduced the DCX series of MPEG-4 HD set-tops
- Ended the year with 47 active WiMAX trials and 15 contracts globally
- Shipped the company’s 50 millionth cable modem, maintaining the largest global modem market share at 32.4%
