Motorola announced a new set-top diagnostics platform today. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to devote to it now that it deserves, but in brief: the Smartstream Data Terminal Collector (STDC) lets operators monitor the quality of video being delivered to set-tops along with other stats, all from a remote location. Better customer service; fewer expensive truck rolls for operators. In the screenshot above, for example, you can see the temperature of the set-top listed, hard drive space available and signal-to-noise ratios.
Here’s product manager Ron McDowell running through the demo with Cable Digital News‘ Jeff Baumgartner.
