According to AT&T reports at a recent investor conference, 90% of current U-verse subscribers bundle Internet with their IPTV service. Will that continue if and when AT&T starts metered Internet service? It all depends on the competition. In fact, it will be interesting to see how the vaunted triple play is affected overall if metered billing becomes a reality. Will consumers think twice about triple-play bundles if Internet caps vary widely from provider to provider? It seems likely. And since a lot of the big folks are considering caps and meters, we’ll likely find out for sure.
In the meantime, AT&T released some other interesting usage statistics on U-verse applications at the investor conference as well:
- 25% of U-verse subscribers use remote DVR programming (I’m surprised it’s not more.)
- 50% have used u-bar (think widgets)
- 50% of subscribers with flickr accounts (how many is that?) have used the U-verse flickr service
Apparently, AT&T is also planning an Olympics application for Q3 to track medal counts and find specific programming. Very nice.
