Motorola hosts a Global Day of Service every year where employees around the world take time off to volunteer in their communities. It’s not the only time of year Motorolans give back, but it is a regular, annual occasion. This year’s service day (today) is taking the theme of “Green and Global” to highlight eco-friendly activities. New components to the program include:
- Working through Carbonfund.org, the Motorola Foundation will arrange to plant a tree in honor of each employee volunteer, reducing the carbon footprint of the event. When an employee reuses a Motorola T-shirt from a previous company event, a second tree will be planted.
- Thousands of employees will participate in an in-office philanthropic effort benefiting the Protect-an-Acre campaign, sponsored by Conservation International. Employee donations will help protect forests and curb climate change.
- Green education lesson plans developed by Motorola will be offered to school children from Chicago to China with a focus on renewable energy. Through a hands-on project, the students will build a small solar car.
I’m hoping to get photos from today’s events when they’re available. And maybe a story or two.
