StarHub is a very progressive service provider out of Singapore – the first to deploy DOCSIS 3.0 technology (pre-cert) back in early 2007. Now the company has signed on with Motorola for on-demand video tech for the release of its “Demand TV” offering. While I don’t have much on the specifics of Demand TV, it looks to be designed for a whole range of applications beyond traditional VOD. Think time-shifted television (a la Time Warner’s Start Over) and new on-demand advertising implementations. StarHub is using the Motorola B-1 video server and Motorola’s new Adaptive Media Management (AMM) platform. (AMM explanation here) That means it has a lot of flexibility in storing and delivering on-demand streams, with options for DRAM and Flash.
Speaking of on-demand streams, while Motorola’s seen a lot of growth in North America, word is that on-demand activity has distinctly picked up in EMEA and parts of Asia as well.
