The Cable Show announcements keep rolling. Motorola launched a new line of voice and data modems this morning with integrated Wi-Fi. In keeping with the trend of cable operators getting more involved in the home network, the introduction of embedded Wi-Fi squarely puts service providers in the business of wireless home connections. All of the gateways in the new product line support self-installation and Motorola’s NBBS remote management technology.
The new products include:
- Motorola SBG901 – Data modem plus 802.11b/g access point, Wi-Fi installation wizard, WPA encryption, and commercial-grade firewall
- Motorola SBG941 – Adds a 4-port switch to the capabilities of the SBG901
- Motorola SVG1501 – Adds 2 voice lines (caller ID, call waiting, conference calling, etc.) to the capabilities of the SBG941
- Motorola SVG2501 – Adds integrated lithium-ion battery backup to the SVG1501
