Here’s a bit of news I missed last week. Motorola is working with operator INFO-TV-FM to roll out a mobile TV network in Poland. The plan is to have mobile TV services up and running by the end of the year in Warsaw and nine other Polish cities. The deal for Motorola involves both network equipment – video headend and transmitters – and a services contract.
Last year the European Commission announced that DVB-H would be the official EU standard for mobile TV, and Poland is sticking to the script here. The new network will be based on DVB-H and OMA BCAST standards. Meanwhile, I can’t help but wonder if this opens up a new opportunity for Motorola’s line of mobile TV products. The DH01 and DH02 media players
both support DVB-H and sport some pretty cool features. The Motorola DH02, in addition to broadcasting TV, includes a touch screen and GPS capabilities. Last I heard, the product was in trials and part of discussions with various European operators.
