The stream of news out of 4G World has continued. Most recently Motorola announced two more WiMAX milestones. First, the company has now shipped one million WiMAX CPE devices, with more than half of those shipments coming in the last six months. All in all, Motorola has more than thirty WiMAX contracts and deployments covering both CPE and infrastructure equipment agreements.
Second, Motorola announced its new NBBS remote management software platform for WiMAX devices. We’ve seen the spread of the NBBS software across multiple technologies. Starting in the telco space, Motorola extended the remote management technology to its new DOCSIS 3.0 voice and data modems with integrated Wi-Fi back in March. The WiMAX platform is standards-based and compliant with Broadband Forum’s TR-069 and Open Mobile Alliance (OMA-DM) management protocols.
