SCTE and the CTAM Summit

The SCTE Cable-Tec Expo doesn’t start until tomorrow, but the CTAM Summit, held in conjunction with the Expo, is already well underway. Among the sessions happening today is one with an excellent line-up of speakers from Motorola (VP Omar Javaid), Comcast, Rogers, and CableLabs. It’s called IP Video and the Realm of Possibility, and best of all, industry sage Leslie Ellis is moderating. Here’s a description:

IP Video and the Realm of Possibility
Tuesday, 2:30 – 3:30 pm
Grand Salon D

Call it IP video, call it IPTV, call it whatever you will – the colossal technological shift toward sending video over IP brings with it a list of possibilities unimaginable in “traditional” digital video systems. Remember how we longed for a way to automatically upgrade subscribers to premium channels, from the couch, with the remote control? That’s child-play in IP. Learn from the experts, in plain language, about:

  • “Service velocity” and getting new video products to market faster
  • Cloud computing and what it means for cable
  • IP-based gadgets, outfitted for use as remote controls

I will be landing in New Orleans tomorrow for the official start of Cable-Tec Expo. Give me a shout if you’ll be there too (Comment here or @msilbey on Twitter), and if not, you can follow along on this blog and over on the MotoVideo site. Motorola posted great footage from IBC last month. I’m expecting more from SCTE as well.
