Today, we are excited to announce that you can get your hands on our latest tablet innovation, the Motorola XOOM through Verizon. We first announced the XOOM back at CES 2011 and are excited about what this tablet will mean for consumers tapping into new converged media experiences.
I blogged about the XOOM’s specs that make the device stand out. However, what truly makes this exciting is the potential this tablet brings to bridging the mobile and home environments – as you know, what we call converged experiences. Motorola Mobility believes the television viewing experience can be expanded to encompass both the main TV and a “companion” device. In fact, you might recall my colleage Steve McCaffrey shared his thoughts on companion screens earlier this month.
Today, consumers can use a secondary device, such as a Motorola XOOM, to browse the Web while they are watching TV. But in our view, this companion device truly becomes part of the converged experience only when it connects to the same cloud-based software driving the television content. Moreover, blending the consumer’s online community into the content service increases the emotional connection and further enriches the experience.
More to come tomorrow……
