The Evolution of the Set-Top Box

The way people are viewing TV is changing and more than ever before, consumers want to watch content on their own terms which is a trend we have seen in our Media Engagement Barometer research and the focus groups we have recently conducted. Our introduction of the DCX3600M is testament to the fact that set-tops are quickly evolving to enable the in-home entertainment experience consumers are now demanding.

Consumers desire high quality video and more choices for watching programs on their own schedule. Factor in the proliferation of smartphones and tablets, and it is clear that to meet consumer needs, service providers require an integrated, flexible and more robust solution in the home.  This is why the set-top will continue to exist.  Motorola set-tops are leading the shift to IP; they are evolving to IP gateways to support all the content and advanced services that will be delivered into the home. Using this latest generation of set tops, service providers are able to offer their subscribers a broad number of advances services including home monitoring.

Motorola’s DCX3600 not only supports existing business models, but is designed to be flexible, offering service providers the ability to add new services, enrich video viewing, ensure quality of service expected by consumers and also to make it easier for subscribers to get the entertainment they demand. If you’re attending the Cable Show come take a look at Motorola booth #609.
