Motorola Mobility introduced a new Televation hosted client app today at SCTE. By supporting a hosted client app for Televation, Motorola has eliminated the need for service providers to invest both time and resources in expensive, custom applications and set-up costs. This makes Televation a cost effective way for almost any service provider to deliver subscribed TV services to consumers’ tablets.
Televation, is a broadband device that enables consumers to watch live TV on their tablets anywhere in and around the home. Introduced back at the 2011 Cable Show, Televation is similar to a traditional set-top in that it features a single QAM tuner and CableCARD decryption. It connects through coax input and Ethernet to a Wi-Fi router enabling secure wireless streaming of linear programming to a tablet. The unit acts as an independent content access point efficiently tuning all subscribed services and transcoding to the proper format without disrupting household viewing. It receives the QAM signal via coax, decodes and decrypts it using a QAM tuner and CableCARD, then transcodes and transrates from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4. Utilizing IPRM, the content is encrypted and then streamed out the Ethernet port to the Wi-Fi router via HTTP Live Streaming (HLS).
Motorola anticipated consumer demands for this device and developed a product for our service provider partners to deliver technology solutions their customers want.
